Cookies for a Car: A Young Girl’s Inspiring Act of Love
The night before last, a young visitor appeared at my door. When I opened it, I was greeted by a cheerful, smiling, young lady—about 14 years old. She carried a large cloth bag over her shoulder and held out a neatly wrapped box of cookies tied with a bow.
With enthusiasm and a polite, friendly voice, she explained that she was selling homemade cookies. She had baked and packed them fresh that very day, and she was going door-to-door with a very special mission: to raise money to buy her sister, soon to turn 16, a car.
Cookies for a Purpose
She showed me the assortment of cookies she had prepared—some simple, some quite fancy—all made and packaged with unmistakable care. Intrigued, I asked her what inspired her to take on such a big project. Her answer touched my heart and impressed me.
“My sister is really nice to me,” she said as her face seemed to glow with affection as she thought of her sister, “and I just want to do something nice for her. She likes Honda Civics, so I want to get her one because I think it will be a great first car.”
Think about this for a moment. Here was a young lady, barely a teenager, not self-absorbed or lost in the typical distractions of youth, but focused on blessing someone else. She saw a need, was inspired and decided to act on it—not waiting for someone else to step in, not dismissing it as impossible because she was “just a kid.”
Blessing in Multiple Ways
This young lady is being a blessing in multiple ways:
Blessing neighbors with delicious homemade cookies thoughtfully made, lovingly packaged and fresh delivered to the door.
Blessing everyone she meets with her bright smile, cheerful energy, and gracious manners.
Blessing us all with her example, showing what it looks like to take inspiration and turn it into action.
And of course, she blessing her family, especially her sister, through her love and determination.
How "Norman" and easy it could have been for her to think, “Cars are expensive. I’m only 14. I’d love to help my sister, but there’s nothing I can do.” Instead, she chose to step out, to do what she could, and to multiply blessings along the way.
Needless to say, I bought cookies from her--sold out for the night when she left my door. How could I not? I wanted to be part of this blessing. Supporting her effort felt like being part of something bigger — love and inspiration spreading through our community.
Call-to-Action
This young lady is baking up blessings. She inspired me and I hope her example inspires and challenges us all. Who can you bless today? Tomorrow? This week? Maybe it’s with a kind word, a helping hand, a thoughtful gift, or simply with your presence and encouragement. Blessings don’t have to be grand to make a difference—they just have to be shared. The key is to care and to quickly take action when a specific inspiration arises to bless someone.
So I’ll leave you with this question: What will you do to be a blessing today?
If you'd like to share this story with others, please do. And if you’ve got a story of how you’re blessing others, I’d love to hear it. Drop me an email: joshua@blessingsrevolution.com. Let’s keep the inspiration flowing! Be greatly blessed as you bless others greatly!
