🍲 Daniel Fast Bitter Melon Soup

Recipe by Joshua the Blessings Guy

A Simple Soup for Cleansing, Clarity, and Spiritual Focus

This humble, plant-based soup fits beautifully within the spirit of the Daniel Fast—simple ingredients, minimal complexity, and nourishment that supports prayer, reflection, and discipline.

✔️ Whole foods

✔️ Plant-based

✔️ No added sugar, oils, or preservatives

🌿 Daniel Fast–Friendly Ingredients

2 large bitter melons, seeded and sliced

½ of a fresh pineapple, peeled and cut into chunks

1 large Japanese daikon radish, peeled and chopped into large squares

2 to 7 Thai chilies, chopped (optional, add as desired according to heat preference)

1 teaspoon white pepper

1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)

1 can (15-16 oz) small white beans

Water, enough to fully cover the vegetables

🍳 Simple Preparation

Slice the bitter melons lengthwise, remove seeds and pith, then cut into bite-size pieces.

Peel and chop the pineapple and daikon into hearty chunks small enough to fit into a soup spoon.

🔥 Cooking Instructions

Place all prepared vegetables into a large pot.

Add the Thai chilies (if using)

Add white pepper and salt.

Pour in enough water to completely cover the vegetables.

Bring to a boil, then reduce to a gentle simmer.

Cook until all vegetables are soft and tender, about 30–45 minutes.

Add can of small white beans to the pot of hot soup.

Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Serve warm.

🙏 Spiritual Reflection (Daniel Fast Focus)

The bitterness of the melon is a reminder that not everything that nourishes us is immediately pleasant—but it is often deeply beneficial.

Just as this soup blends bitterness with natural sweetness, the Daniel Fast invites us to embrace discipline, humility, and simplicity, trusting that spiritual clarity and renewal follow.

“But Daniel resolved not to defile himself…” — Daniel 1:8

This soup is an invitation to:

  • Release excess and distraction

  • Practice obedience and intentional living

  • Make space for prayer, listening, and spiritual alignment

As you eat, take a moment to pray: “Lord, cleanse my heart, sharpen my focus, and help me hunger more for You than for comfort.”

🌱 A Blessing

May this simple meal nourish your body, quiet your spirit, and strengthen your resolve as you walk through the Daniel Fast with purpose and joy.
