  • 1 cup whole brown rice, rinsed well

  • 1 can (13.5–14 oz) natural coconut milk

  • 1½ cups water (plus more if needed during cooking)

  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • ½ teaspoon ground cardamom

  • 5 Medjool dates, pitted and chopped
