🧇 Daniel Fast Waffles

No Sugar • No White Flour • No Eggs • No Dairy

Recipe by Joshua the Blessings Guy

One of the biggest myths about the Daniel Fast is it's nearly impossible or joyless.
Simplicity brings inherent joys—and discipline doesn’t mean dull.

These Daniel Fast–friendly waffles are made with whole grains, fruit-based sweetness, and simple ingredients you can feel good about. Instead of syrup, we use a warm, naturally sweet berry topping that feels comforting, nourishing, and intentional.

This recipe is:

  • ✔️ 100% Daniel Fast–friendly

  • ✔️ Plant-based

  • ✔️ Naturally sweetened with fruit

  • ✔️ Family-approved

  • ✔️ Simple and satisfying

🧺 Daniel Fast Waffle Recipe

Ingredients for the Waffle Batter

4 cups whole grain flour

I prefer a blend of whole grain flours such as:

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour

  • 1 cup brown rice flour

  • 1 cup oat flour or almond flour

  • 1 cup spelt or buckwheat flour

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups water
(may substitute unsweetened almond milk or unsweetened soy milk)

  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce

  • 2 overripe bananas (the riper, the better)

Optional Add-Ins

  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

  • 2 teaspoons poppy seeds

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ to 1 cup chopped walnuts

  • ½ to 1 cup unsweetened raisins or chopped dried fruit
(dates, apricots, or mango work beautifully)

🍓 Ingredients for the Berry Topping

(Served in place of syrup)

  • 2 cups fresh or frozen berries

Optional Add-Ins

  • 1 cup blackberries, raspberries, or strawberries

  • 1 cup fresh apple, chopped

🥣 Directions

  1. Prepare the Berry Topping
Place the berries (and optional fruit) in a small saucepan.
Simmer gently over low heat while you prepare the batter, stirring occasionally.

  2. Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, add the 4 cups of whole grain flour.
Stir in cinnamon and poppy seeds if using.

  3. Add Bananas
Add the overripe bananas and mash thoroughly with a fork until smooth.

  4. Add Wet Ingredients
Stir in the unsweetened applesauce, salt (if using), and water (or plant milk).

  5. Mix Gently
Stir just until the batter comes together.
Avoid overmixing to keep the waffles light.

  6. Add Optional Ingredients
Mix in walnuts, raisins, or dried fruit if desired.

  7. Cook the Waffles
Preheat the waffle iron and lightly spray with olive oil or coconut oil.
Scoop batter into the waffle iron and cook until golden and set.

  8. Serve
Spoon the warm berry topping over the waffles and enjoy immediately.

✨ Why This Works on the Daniel Fast

These waffles rely on whole grains and fruit instead of refined sugars or animal products.
The bananas and applesauce provide natural sweetness and moisture, while the berries offer a warm, comforting topping without syrup.

It’s a reminder that Intentional eating can still be joyful.

🌿 Daniel Fast Reflection

The Daniel Fast isn’t just about changing what we eat.

When we simplify our food, we often discover clarity elsewhere:

  • clarity in thought

  • clarity in prayer

  • clarity in purpose

As you prepare these simple waffles:

  • Stir slowly.

  • Cook patiently.

  • Eat gratefully.

🙏 A Blessing for Your Day

May this meal strengthen your body
and quiet your mind.

May simplicity bring clarity,
and discipline bring peace.

May you be filled—
not just with food,
but with wisdom, patience, and love.

And may your life today
be a blessing to others.
